Sharing with the club

Submitting a recipe, how review works, variations of club brews, and sharing a brew's measured numbers with the club.

Updated 2026-10-17

On this page

Any approved member can share recipes with the club from the app. Nothing is published straight away: a club editor checks it first. Your recipe stays on your phone either way, and you can keep brewing and changing it.

Submitting a recipe

  1. Open the recipe. The strip at the top says whether it’s on the club site yet.
  2. Tap Submit to the club. The app checks the recipe with the website first and tells you what it found: ingredient names it matched to the club library, any it didn’t know, and whether you already have a club brew with the same name.
  3. Set who can see it (members only, or everyone) and add a note for the editor if you like.
  4. Tap Submit. The recipe shows as in review.

The first time, the website also makes your brewer page from your name.

Review

An editor reads it on valleybrewer.nz and either approves it or asks for changes. Once approved, it’s published in Club Brews and on the website, and the recipe in the app shows as published, with Open on valleybrewer.nz.

Variations

A recipe you copied from someone else’s club brew can go back as a variation of it. The original isn’t changed; your version links to it, and the website shows the two together. A variation of a members-only brew stays members-only.

Sharing a brew

When you’ve brewed a recipe and recorded it, you can share that brew’s numbers too:

  1. Open the finished brew from the recipe’s brew history.
  2. Tap Share with the club. If your recipe’s numbers differ from what you measured, it offers Apply first (share the recipe as you brewed it) or Share as it is.
  3. The screen says what will happen:
    • Updates your club brew … if the recipe is already on the site: the club page gets this brew’s measurements and goes back to review. The published page stays as it is until it’s approved.
    • Makes a new club brew if it isn’t.
  4. Check Brew date on the club page (it starts as the day you brewed it) and submit.

The club page then shows what you measured (OG, FG, ABV, volume, efficiency, pH, packaging), with the recipe’s target in small text where they differ.

Archiving

On the website, Your brews lets you archive a brew. It comes off the site and the app but isn’t deleted; you can restore it there.
